The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has unveiled the registration timeline for the 2023 Undergraduate Studies Admission Test (USAT). The deadline for USAT applications is October 17, 2023, and the tentative date for the HEC USAT is October 29, 2023.

The Education Testing Council (ETC) under the HEC will administer the USAT for undergraduate admissions in universities across Pakistan. The USAT, modeled after the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), encompasses all recognized disciplines of Engineering, Medicine, IT, Management, and Social Sciences at the undergraduate level. Students who pass the USAT will be eligible to apply to all universities, similar to the SAT.

Eligibility for Admission Test (USAT 2023)

Eligibility for the Undergraduate Studies Admission Test (USAT 2023) includes students who have completed their Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or equivalent/Grade 12 education, students awaiting their final examination results, and students with 12 years/ equivalent education in any discipline.

Test structure

The HEC USAT Test is divided into two parts:


  • Number of test items: 75 MCQs
  • Time allowed: 100 minutes
  • Verbal reasoning: 35
  • Quantitative reasoning: 40


  • Time allowed: 40 minutes
  • Essay writing skills (400-500 words in either English or Urdu): 25

A score of 50 or above is considered a qualifying USAT score, with the highest possible score being a perfect 100.

The test will initially be conducted on a quarterly basis in major cities across Pakistan. Additional tests may be arranged if necessary. The annual test calendar will be available on the ETC website, and candidates can register through the online registration portal.

Universities will continue to announce their admission programs independently. Students will apply to universities and submit their USAT ETC scorecard for inclusion in the merit-determining formula based on weightage.

Steps to Apply for HEC USAT 2023

  • To register for HEC USAT 2023, please visit http://etc.hec.gov.pk.
  • For any queries during online registration, please visit onlinehelp.hec.gov.pk or HEC regional offices for guidance.
  • Application Submission involves two steps: profile completion using the “My Profile” section and application submission using the “Undergraduate Studies Admission Test” links on the menu panel on the left-hand sidebar of the online portal.
  • Only SUBMITTED applications will be considered for USAT Test and applications in SAVE or INCOMPLETE mode will not be entertained.
  • The test fee for the Undergraduate Studies Admission Test (USAT) is PKR 1,750/- per candidate.
  • Candidates can deposit the fee amount via 1Link 1bill invoice participating banks/ATM/Internet banking/Mobil App/EasyPessa/JazCash/UPaisa.
  • After selecting 1Link 1bill service, sign in to your mobile app, click on bill payment or payment services, click on 1bill invoice payment services and enter the consumer number generated by the ETC Portal.
  • Once you see the details, pay the amount.
  • Click on verify online payment on ETC dashboard.
  • Please note that the test fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
